Moving in with my fiance was an exciting moment in our relationship. But I will admit, that I was a little nervous when we finally made the decision to get a place together. My nervousness came from the fact that I would be expected to do more as a soon to be wife in the household. I’ve been living with family members mostly my entire life, and during that time other cooked for me or I only made small meals just for myself. I never had the responsibility of cooking for another person.
When we first moved in, I struggled with how to manage cooking for two. I now had to consider what I was putting in the food in regards to seasonings and other preferences. Now, my fiance is not as picky, but when I cook, I just throw things together. He never complained (not that he would) about my cooking, but after awhile I started thinking about what I was cooking more than I did before. My meals weren’t as healthy and fresh as they should be. There was a lot of fried food, takeout when I was too lazy to cook, and pre-cooked meals that carried so many preservatives.
It was time for a change, and that’s when I was introduced to HelloFresh.
HelloFresh is a food subscription service that promotes healthy eating. All you have to do is sign up and select your plan and preferences. You provide information about how many people you are cooking for, how many meals you would like to receive per week, food preferences, allergies, etc. Then a box shows up on your doorstep with fresh ingredients and step-by-step directions on how to prepare your meals.
The quality of the ingredients are top-quality. They are fresh and can be kept for a week or two without spoiling in the case that you are not ready to cook your meals right away.
You have the ability to choose meals, pause, or change preferences any time that you want based on what you feel like eating during that week.
When I signed up, I asked for a plan for two that started off with basic, classic meals that would not go too far outside our boundaries but still include flavors that we may not get outside of a restaurant.
Now, I am not a chef in any way. My go-to meal is still pasta or a frozen pizza. But HelloFresh didn’t require too much from me in regards to time commitment or knowledge of cooking. The steps told me exactly what to do and exactly when to do it. For example, it told me when it was time to put the chicken on the stove after preparing other ingredients for other parts of the meal.
There was no need for “chef-like” tools to prepare the meal. You just needed your basic pots and pans, knives, bowls, etc. and you are all set to go.
HelloFresh made it easy to cook for two and have an awareness of what is being put on the table. My fiance and I enjoyed three fresh meals that week that were absolutely delicious and healthy for us. Nothing off my repeated weekly menu of pasta, ramen, or frozen pizzas.

I did not deviate any way, but when the meal said to add salt or pepper based on preference, I did as so. My fiance and I are ones that do enjoy a little extra seasoning on our plate.
