27 Things I’m Planning to Do in my 27th Year

Celebrating A Birthday

Celebrating A Birthday

The other day I looked up and went, “When did I become an adult?” I’m married. We own a house. We are talking about starting a family within the next few years. I have a career. I’m talking about getting a Ph.D. My worries are no longer about making sure my papers are complete or what drama is going on with my friends. I’m an adult! So today, on my birthday, I want to sit and reflect, and set some more adult goals for myself. There is so much that I have done within these past 27 years, but there is still so much that I want to do. That’s why, today, I want to share with you the 27 things that I want to do in my 27th year.

Celebrating 27th Birthday

1. Start Work to Pursue My Ph.D.

Ever since I was in undergrad, I knew that I wanted to eventually get my Ph.D. My end goal is to get to the level to teach at the university level, even though I do love teaching my high school students. My education has always been important to me, and I know that there is so much more out there that I can learn.

2. Travel to Two New International Locations

My husband and I have made a pact to travel to at least one international location each year. And we’ve kept to that since we said our “I Do’s”. This upcoming year, I want to step up our game and travel to two instead of just one. I mean, why not? We are already planning on a cruise that is going into the new year, so we will already have one. That leaves the summer for another trip or maybe more. But hmm, where should we go? There are so many options.

3. Take Part in a Community Service Project

I used to do a lot of community service work when I was in high school and then in college, but when I graduated, I stopped. I loved giving back to my community, and was so upset when I stopped. And I don’t want to make any excuses about it. Instead, I am going to get back into getting involved and giving back to my community.

4. Take Up Kickboxing

I have been talking about this for years. But the main problem is that I am super lazy. My husband recently got a gym membership which includes a family pass. He offered it to me and I was too busy laying on the couch that I just couldn’t bring myself to get off of it. But this year, I will actually enroll myself in a kickboxing class and get my butt back in shape.

5. Stop Procrastinating

I am a big procrastinator. I wait until the very final deadline to get things finished, where I have the ability to get it done early. Even when I don’t procrastinate, I end up not liking the original and do it again and then I procrastinate on that.

Happy Birthday

6. Start Making Moves to Start Our Family

Hubby and I have been talking about starting our family for awhile. But, of course, I have been putting it off because I truly did not feel like I was ready to be a mom. I didn’t know if I was ready to be responsible for the life of another human being. But hubby has been giving me confidence as well as my mom and sister. Even my niece, who constantly treats me as if I am the best aunt in the world even though I am just stumbling through it, has given me the confidence to grow the Vincent family. So this year, we are going to make some moves. I am going to get my health together and deal with my PCOS.

7. Up My Youtube Game

I have been dabbling with Youtube and postinig a few videos every once and awhile. My students have even found my channel and talk to me about how they keep an eye out for my new videos, which I keep telling them won’t be up for quite some time. But maybe, I can get this started. I have the equipment and I purchased the software. So why am I not putting it to good use.

8. Stop Being Afraid to Take Leaps

I am a big planner. Any move that I make is strategically planned out so that I don’t falter or make any big mistakes. So I become hesitant and afraid. But this year, I want to stop. I want to stop over analyzing things and being afraid to live my life to the fullest. Time and time again, my mistakes have turned into well learned lessons, and my friends and family have always been there to catch me when I fall.

9. Get More Involved at My Current Teaching Job

I am currently in the process of getting involved with my school. I teach, yes, but I can be doing more to make myself seen being interactive with the students and the school activities. My boss even told me that I should get more involved because the students want to see me. So this year, I’ll make sure that I do it.

10. Train My New Puppy to Be Great

If you hadn’t heard, we got a puppy! After years of begging my husband for us to get a puppy, he finally caved and we got one about two weeks ago that we adopted from Petsmart on National Adoption Day. He is literally the best. I have introduced him on my Instagram and have featured him in quite a few stories. He’s the cutest and calmest puppy that you’ll ever meet. I already know that he’s going to be great, but I am going to keep my training up to make him the greatest of the great.

11. Finish Editing My Book & Get an Agent

This past summer, I finished my book. It was a lot. After hundreds of pages and over 50,000 words. I finished it. But now I need to edit it in its entirety to make sure the whole thing flows and that when it is sent off, it doesn’t look careless. I am going to finish this editing project and then continue my search for an agent. I am not ready to give up on this book and I’m ready for the world to read it.

12. Break a Bad Habit

Isn’t this always someone’s goal? I have a ton of bad habits, other than procrastinating. So this year, I want to work on breaking one. Maybe it’s the habit of correcting people when they miss-say something. Or maybe it is something else. But I am gionog to work to break it.

13. Give Something to My Parents

My parents have done so much for me over the years. Other than just raising me. But even in my adulthood, they have supported me and made sure that I was always taken care of. So this year, I want to do more for them. They have raised three fabulous adults. It’s time those adults start giving back to them and celebrating them as parents.

14. Host More Gatherings at Our New House

I love hosting, and so far, we have hosted three small gatherings at the house. It has been fabulous to have people over and share in the space of our warm and humble home. On our wall in our dining area, we actually have a quote that says “When you have more than you need, build a longer table not a higher fence”. We are true believers of that quote and want to live by it.

15. Do a Renovation to Our House

When hubby and I moved in, we had so many ideas of things that we could change in the house. But as I began establishing the decor of the house, I realized there were a lot of things that don’t really need to change. But we definitely want to make sure we improve the house while we are living here. We are leaning towards fixing the basement first, but you never know what other projects will come up.

16. Visit New Cities in the US

There are so many cities in the US that I haven been to. I have traveled down the East Coast and took a short summer trip to the West Coast, but there are so many cities in between. It’s about time for me to see them. Chicago? Nashville? Dallas? Let’s go!

17. Keep Motivated with My Blog

I will openly admit that there are times when I become unmotivated when it comes to my blog. I get exhausted with being a full time teacher, trying to do everything, and then also running this blog. And then in weeks where I feel like I am not showing the success I want to be showing, I begin to feel as if I should drop this blog. This year, I want to shake that feeling and keep motivated. I started this blog because I love fashion, I love living this luxury lifestyle, and I absolutely love sharing my story with you all.

18. Clean Out My Closet

Moving into the house, my husband gave me a strange look when we were moving all of my clothes into my own personal walk-in closet. He couldn’t believe that I needed all of this space and had so many shoes and clothes. At first, I just shrugged him off, but then I began realizing that there are a lot more clothes in that closet that I no longer need. It’s time for a big cleanse of the closet.

19. Learn to Say No

With friends, family, and everything that I do. I need to start saying no. I have been overwhelming myself so much these past few years because I just decided that I could do everything that I wanted to and didn’t need a break every once and awhile. But I realized that I need to relax and slow down every once and awhile.

20. Find Time to Read 40 New Books

I used to be an avid reader in high school and in college. But then somewhere along the way, after graduating, I lost it. But I kept the habit of buying books that I had every intention on reading. It’s time for me to get to those books and read even more. I’m setting a goal to read at least 40 before my next birthday.

21. Learn a New Skill

It’s time to pick up something new. Like I was saying before, there is so much out there to learn. And I want to learn more. I want to have the skills to be able to do everything that I want without having to wait for someone to do it for me.

22. Expand My Business

This blog is my passion, but it is also my business. I want to expand it and keep it growing. I have always wanted to start my own line of clothing, and this year, I am going to begin looking into the process of getting that going. And who knows, maybe one day you’ll see some of my looks in a boutique.

23. Make Time for Me

I need to make sure that I am making time for me and working to improve my emotional, physical, and mental strength. By making time for me and learning to say no, I know I’ll find a healthier place.

24. Start a New Book

Though I have finished one book, there has been another book idea on my mind that I want to start writing. My book that I recently finished is more fantasy fiction, but the one that I want to write deals with more the the teenage way of living and thinking. A female who doesn’t live by the rules and makes her own way through her own methods. That’s a book I want to write and, of course, read.

25. Get to Universal’s Harry Potter Attraction

Ever since they made the Harry Potter attraction, I have been trying to go. I even got so close to going to the one in California, but when I visited Universal Studios, they were still in the process of building it. I have been to Orlando quite a few times and have visited Disney World more than once. But I am ashamed to say I have never been to the Harry Potter attraction at Universal, and I’m dying to go.

26. Take My Mom and Sister on Another Trip

Earlier this year, my mother, sister and I went on a trip to Orlando. We ate, relaxed, and had a ton of fun. And that’s something that I want to make a frequent thing. We as her daughters love to take care of my mom and show her new things, just as much as she still loves making sure that she is raising her daughters. A mother’s work is never done.

27. Discover More of Me

Overall, I want to make sure that I discover more of me. I am changing day by day, and sometimes, I forget to stop and think about who I am instead of thinking of how others perceive me.
