For those who want the derby experience, well there is one that you can go to right in the Philadelphia area. The Pennsylvania Derby takes places every year at Parx Racing and is an experience that you must have or you haven’t had all of the Philadelphia area experiences. In all of my time in the Philly area, this was an experience that I didn’t even realize I was missing until I attended with my family.

At the Pennsylvania Derby, you’ll find that there is plenty of places to sit. You can get a lawn picnic table that is first-come-first-served, bring your own lawn chairs, sit on the benches outside of the grassy area, or find a place to sit indoors (but you’ll want to be outside). Right along the track, you’ll be able to watch all of the day’s races while enjoying food and drink that you can bring in yourself. When we attended, we had food, drinks, and snacks that we brought in a cooler that we were able to enjoy throughout the day while watching the various races. You’ll need a little knowledge of horse racing to get into placing your bets, but once you get an essence of what you’re doing, you’ll be able to place your bets and enjoy your time.

The PA Derby is a family friendly event where you can bring your little ones to enjoy watching the horse races, but also enjoy the various kid friendly activities that they have there such as pony rides, crafts, face painting, a playground, and more. It’s an all age event and experience that you’ll go to once and want to make a tradition.
