My husband and I have always been travelers, and even now with our son, we still like to take romantic trips where we spend time with just each other and reinvest in our relationship while bringing romance back to the forefront. So amidst the whirlwind that has been us building our dream home, we decided that it was time for a romantic getaway at an adults only resort specific for relaxation and romance, and we headed to Secrets Riviera Cancun in Mexico.
We are no strangers to Secrets Resorts. Soon after our son was born, we took a parent’s getaway to Jamaica where we stayed at Secrets Resorts and Spa Wild Orchid. So it was an absolute no brainer of where to start looking when we decided it was time for another getaway. Our stay at Secrets Riviera Cancun was just what we needed, and in this post, I’m sharing with you my review on what to expect from your stay and how to get the most out of it.

Secrets Riviera Cancun caters to making sure that everything you experience is inclusive and to a preferred standard, which is why they are “All Preferred, All the Time”. And between July 10th – July 21st, if you use the password Transport Your Senses, you can take advantage of a complimentary Phosphene Light Therapy treatment at Spa by Penovia.
WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE AT SECRETS RIVIERA CANCUN
Getting to THE RESORT
Secrets Riviera Cancun is only about 15 minutes from the Cancun International Airport. Upon arrival, it was pretty simple for us to get off the plane and head right out to our pickup area. Though there are many options for transport, I highly recommend going with Amstar for a Private Transfer. After we collected our bags, we headed right out of the exit doors where one of the friendly staff members indicated to where our pick-up area was, and from there we got into a air-conditioned private car, jumping ahead of the line, and was taken right to the front door of the amazing resort. During the transfer, we were also offered complimentary beer, water, and other available drinks.

If you’re looking for romance, tranquility, and an overall sensory experience – Secrets Riviera Cancun brings just that. Overall, Secrets Resorts & Spas caters directly to couples and romance. So you’re heading to a resort that is kid-free, calming, and personalized to the romantic experience that you are seeking. While staying at the Secrets Riviera Cancun, you’ll be provided with a VIP Concierge throughout your stay, an all-inclusive experience to eat and drink as you desire, and the ability to delve into social sophistication at the Breathless Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa which is located right next door. When we opted to visit Secrets Riviera Cancun, we had somewhat of idea of what to expect due to our previous experience with Secrets Resorts, but I will say that if you have been to another Secrets Resort, still expect something different as each location brings it’s own element to match with the locale and culture.
UPON ARRIVAL – Checking In
Our private transfer brought us right to the front door of the the resort. We were greeted right at the gate and our bags were taken to be delivered to our rooms after we went through the check-in process. After being escorted to the lounge to check-in, we were offered a welcome drink to celebrate our arrivals and make us comfortable as we went through the process. When checking in, expect the standard process but with a catered to your mood element. We filled out the paperwork and right after, we were escorted to our rooms where our concierge gave us an introduction to the suite and the property.
THE Suites
Secrets Riviera Cancun is one of the few Secrets Resorts that only has suites. At some of the other resorts, you’ll find a mixture of rooms and suites, but at this property, every person staying has a suite. For our stay, we were in a Preferred Club Junior Suite Swim-Out with a Tropical View. Other varieties of the rooms are ones with balconies that include hot tubs, larger suites that include a swim out and larger patio along with a few other different styles in between. The room itself was one of the best we have stayed in. Upon entry, there is a mini bar that is stocked daily where you can have whatever you would like since it is an inclusive resort that you walk past into a room that has an open concept feel. We loved the rain shower and the comfortable large King size bed, but one of our favorite places was the patio with the swim-out. Being able to just walk from the room right into a private area of the pool was a highlight for us, and from the pool and patio area, the staff will come by to take your drink order and bring it right to you.
THE Food
If you’re anything like me, one big thing that can make or break a trip for you is the food. And I will tell you that the food options at Secrets Riviera Cancun were plentiful and the food was great. There are multiple options of food including room service which we didn’t didn’t order during our stay, but with all of the restaurant options along with the option for a private dinner on the beach, you won’t find yourself wanting to order room service since you’ll be so busy exploring all that Secret Riviera Cancun has to offer.
RESTAURANTS
Secrets Riviera Cancun houses an exclusive restaurant right next to the resort pool – Rosewater. Rosewater is exclusively available to guest of Secrets Riviera Cancun, which means that though Secrets guests can go to all the restaurants over on the Breathless side, those guests at Breathless cannot come to Rosewater. At Rosewater, you’ll find a variety of different meals offered for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For dinner, though we didn’t need to make a reservation because there was a good amount of space, I recommend making a reservation especially to get a beach facing seat to watch the sunset while you enjoy your meal.
Other than Rosewater, there are a number of different restaurants – located all on the Breathless side – that you can easily walk to. I recommend for any of these restaurants to make a reservation no matter the time of year that you are visiting because the restaurants can get full at certain times. Reservations can be made through the concierge or right upon check-in if you know what you would like to eat for each day of your stay. Also note that some restaurants do have a dress code.
PRIVATE DINNER
If you’re looking to spice up the romance and have an incredible experience while at Secrets Riviera Cancun, I highly recommend booking a Romantic Beachside Dinner. For our last night during our stay, we indulged in a private dinner that included us sitting beachside to watch the sunset, while having private service for drinks, food, and the overall sensory experience. My recommendation for booking this experience is to book it with your reservation, or on day of arrival, as your concierge about booking the experience. It is one that you have to do and one that I would highly recommend. It was a highlight our stay and a dinner that I couldn’t imagine us not doing.
WHAT TO DO WHILE AT SECRETS RIVIERA CANCUN
During your stay at Secrets Riviera Cancun, expect to not only be transported through the food and the suites, but also through the vast experiences that you can have poolside, at the spa, taking part in the activities, and even heading on an excursion.
THE Pool
Whether you have a swim-out suite or not, you’ll want to take time to visit the pool. Secrets Riviera Cancun has an expansive pool with an infinity edge, cabanas for you to relax around, places to lay mid-pool, along with many more amenities that you’ll find yourself taking full advantage of. One of our days at the resort, we opted to reserve a poolside cabana where we lounged for the majority of the day. If you’re looking to reserve one, you can opt to do so with your concierge or talk to one of the staff members at the pool area about securing a cabana for the day. Also, if you’re not someone that gets up early and are thinking about hanging out by the pool, reserving an area for seats whether a cabana or not is highly recommended because it can get full fairly quickly.
While staying at the pool in the cabana, we were able to order drinks right by the pool or at our cabana, enjoy live music that was played at a point in the day, come and go to lunch at Rosewater while still keeping our cabana secured, and of course swim around enjoy each other’s company.
Resort ACTIVITIES
At Secrets Riviera Cancun, there are a number of activities offered each day. During the day, you’ll find activities such as a mixology class (which we took and really enjoyed – especially because we learned how to make a drink and shot and then enjoy it), spin class in the water, dance classes, and so much more. It is great for those who don’t have an excursion booked or if you’re someone just looking to stay on property. Then at night, you can head over to the Breathless side to enjoy the themed nights. We were fortunate to be at Secrets Riviera Cancun in Mexico during Cinco de Mayo, and they festivities that took place were absolutely amazing. Filled with food, dancing, mini shows, and drinks, we had a great night.
EXCURSIONS IN Cancun
If you’re someone looking for a little adventure and went to venture off property for a bit, you can book an excursion that will pick you up right from the resort. Near the Preferred Lounge, you’ll find an Amstar representative that can help you book excursions right when you get to the resort, or if you are looking to get things booked ahead of time, you can book online prior.
We opted for an excursion for a cenotes tour callled Xenotes with Xcarat Tours. It was a fabulous time and we were picked up right at the front of the resort property, taken out for the tour, and then brought right back where the staff had taken care of our room and left us some treats to enjoy as we reset for the rest of the day. THE Spa
As a guest of Secrets Riviera Cancun, each person gets to enjoy a one-hour hydrotherapy circuit at the Secrets Spa by Pevonia. You are required to schedule your circuit ahead of time, which you can do with your concierge, and the experience overall is great to relax your body and reset especially after any days where you had a long day at an excursion or decided to experience Social Sophistication on the Breathless side. The spa also offers a variety of other services including facials and massages. For our stay, we booked a couples massage which we absolutely loved because it not only let us relax and restore, it was also another way for us to connect and have another sweet, romantic moment.
Overall, our stay at Secrets Riviera Cancun was spectacular and even made us start looking at other places in the Hyatt All Inclusive collection for us to stay in the next coming years whether it’s just for a family getaway, romantic trip, or to celebrate something.
