Over the years, me and my skin have had battles that I constantly felt as if I was losing. As a teenager, I had horrible acne. It wouldn’t be a mass of breakouts as single dots. My breakouts were huge mounds on my face that left large scars that would take months to heal. As my teenage acne began to dissipate with age, my skin started to develop other issues that had met feeling as if I was never going to be able to achieve any clean skin look that I wanted.

In my adulthood, I developed extremely oily skin. It would be so bad that when I would touch my face, my hand would come away with access oil that I would have to wash off my hands. So, as any person would, I assumed I had oily skin. After that, I bought a ton of products to help combat and treat oily skin. But nothing worked.
With all the frustration of my skin still being oily and my makeup never staying on my face, I gave up on trying to treat myself and went to a dermatologist. I was prescribed with a product that ended up drying out my skin so much that I felt like with one move, my skin would crack. It wasn’t what I wanted and there were obvious dry patches on my face.
I tried to combat the effects of the topical cream with skincare products that would fight dry skin. But that didn’t work either. My face just ended up getting irritated and would burn if I put any type of make-up on.
Finally, I went to a beauty specialist and learned that my combination skin that was mostly dry skin. My skin was overproducing oils because my skin felt so dry. Their remedy was to start using combination products and making sure that I was staying hydrated throughout the day by drinking plenty of fluids.
This revelation and those tips saved the way that I look at my skin and each day, I am finding new products that work for me and finding ways to improve my skin even as it changes.
I have even made some lifestyle changes to help my skin – which has benefited me not only on the outside but the inside as well.
