STYLING THE TAN SWEATER DRESS
Tips FOR STYLING A SWEATER DRESS
Ready to start styling your sweater dresses all season long? Read on for my best tips and tricks.
WEAR A BELT FOR THE PERFECTLY CINCHED LOOK
Many people feel like it’s hard to wear sweater dresses because if they don’t fit perfectly, they can quickly feel a bit shapeless. Wearing a belt adds instant definition and shape, making the look super flattering. Belts are a fabulous accessory, and I love that they can switch up a look in seconds. Some sweater dresses even have a belt already attached, which makes life even easier!
MAKE IT SPORTY
One of my favorite outfits for a casual day out in early autumn is pairing a sweater dress with my favorite pair of sneakers. I love that it makes the sweater dress work for everyday wear, and when it’s still early enough in the season that you don’t need tights, it’s a great simple outfit for errands, shopping, or lunch with friends.
ANKLE BOOTS, BABY!
No matter the length of your sweater dress, ankle boots are a great choice. They’re perfect for fall, and they add an elevated touch to your overall look. I thought that this pair of ankle boots worked perfectly with my tan sweater dress as they went with the neutral vibe of the outfit and kept everything cohesive and stylish.
KEEP IT CLASSIC
One of my favorite styles in cooler weather is the classic long overcoat over my sweater dress. It just gives that quintessential fall in the city vibe, and makes me feel like I’m in a movie. I love the timeless elegance, and find that it really helps my look transition easily from day to night. It’s the perfect look for a classy dinner and a night out on the town.
ROCK THE LEATHER
Add some edge to your look by pairing your sweater dress with a leather jacket. Especially when you’re wearing a tan or beige sweater dress, a leather jacket really takes the cozy neutral look to a whole new level, elevating it in a way that’s stylish and fun. A cropped leather jacket breaks up the long line of the sweater dress, making it instantly more flattering and keeping you warm on the colder days of fall as winter draws near.
THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKING
Aside from the standard ankle boot, there are a whole host of different boots that you can pair with your sweater dress to create different looks. I love that different heights of boots pair differently with different lengths of dresses, and switching up your boots gives you a great variety in your look.
For shorter sweater dresses, I love to pull out my over the knee boots as they add a sexy flair to the look that I’m obsessed with. You can also wear knee length or calf length boots with longer dresses – it all depends on the piece!
It’s so easy in the autumn season to fully embrace the monochrome look. The world of women’s clothing is filled with so many great neutral pieces, and as you work to style your tan or taupe sweater dress, you can make your outfit look incredibly cohesive by styling it with shoes and a purse that are in the same color family to give you a stylish monochromatic look. It’s so aesthetically pleasing, and will help you feel so put together and ready to take on the day.
You can also dress in all black for a similarly monochrome look that’s flattering, slimming, and oh so classy.
LAYER, LAYER, LAYER!
Remember: when in doubt, layer! It’s autumn, which means you can get away with a million different types of layered looks. Whether you’re rocking a coat, vest, tights, sweaters, or scarves, you have so many options. Plus, different layers means you can add so many great textures to your outfit, which is even more exciting!
