Statistically, couples argue about finances more than anything. It can be challenging. As singles, we are used to having everything be our own, and we don’t have to talk to another person when we want to make a purchase.
Before getting married, I managed my finances based on the bills that I had (which weren’t many) and on the things that I wanted. But when I moved in with my husband and we began planning our lives, we had a hard time adjusting to the fact that our money was just that…OURS.
To be honest, he was able to adjust a little faster than I was. I was stuck on the word, MINE, and if I wanted to buy something, I did just that without any second thought about how it was affecting him. It was stressful, because I began to realize that I needed to change and he was getting frustrated with the idea that I was not consulting with him when it not only came to making purchases, but even opening a credit card which affects us in the long run.
We have gotten better, but it is still a struggle today. And if you are going through the same thing, please know that you’re not alone. My husband and I have been working on this stresser in our relationship on our own, but recently, we found out that there is help out there for couples to help manage.
Capital One has a Money Workshop curriculum, and one of their workshops is “Talking Money with Your Honey”. And as a way to introduce the “Money and Relationships” workshops in Philadelphia, Capital One will be hosting a live, interactive game show on Monday, October 18th which will be followed by the first in a series of Money and Relationships workshops that will run through November 8th at the Capital One Café in Rittenhouse.
I’m super excited to be taking part in one of these workshops. My hubby and I will be at the workshop on October 25th, and we are super anxious to find out what we know about each other, financially, and how we can grow in our relationship when it comes to budgeting and making financial decisions together.
You can find all the information regarding the upcoming workshops in Philadelphia below. And make sure to stop by on October 18th to check out the game show and kickoff workshop, and any Wednesday through November 8th to attend a Money and Relationships workshop. I would love to see you all join me on the day that my husband and I are there. You can get to know us a little better and meet us in person, which we would LOVE!
