Spooky season is here and that also means that it’s time to celebrate with a cocktail. Whether you’re hosting a Halloween party, or you need a cocktail while you’re giving out candy or preparing to go trick-or-treating with your little one, this Halloween cocktail is one that is a real treat and one that even those who aren’t huge fans of tequila will love.
As I began preparing for a Halloween cocktail this season, I decided to base this cocktail off of the Halloween outfit that I am preparing to wear this season. The Witch’s Kiss is also a play off of one of my previous cocktails – Kiss of Rose. Though it does not have the same ingredients, it does have the same smoothness.
With a simple mix of some sweet ingredients to balance off the bitterness of some of the others, this Halloween cocktail is one that is a great balance and also gives an element of luxurious spookiness.
It’s an easy cocktail recipe that anyone can make at home because all you’re required to do is combine the tequila, Chambord, lime juice, brown sugar, and sugar cube with some ice and give it a shake. Stir in some San Pellegrino Orange and Pomegranate sparkling soda then pour over ice. Last step is to top with some ginger beer and then garnish with a burnt dried mint leaf.
The Witch’s Kiss is guaranteed to be a Halloween cocktail that you and your possible guests will love.
TALE OF THE WITCHES KISS
The Witch’s Kiss is a cocktail that, like mentioned, was inspired by another one of my cocktails. But when I came to making the cocktail, I didn’t want to use the same spirit. The Kiss of Rose is a cocktail that uses bourbon, and as much as I love bourbon, I didn’t feel that this cocktail would be right with it. So I went to tequila because I knew that the smoothness of silver tequila would be a great balance for many of the sweet ingredients that go into this cocktail.
Many cocktails that I had seen on the internet used a lot of dark juices such as pomegranate juice and plum juice, and though those juices sounded like viable options and would look great because of the dark color, I didn’t want this cocktail to be completely dark. Yes, it’s a spooky Halloween cocktail that is supposed to be inspired by a witch, but not all witches have dark lips. So for this Halloween cocktail, I wanted something a little lighter in color but still maintain that mystic look.
Elements OF THE WITCH’S KISS
There are a variety of elements in the Witch’s Kiss that should be brought to light. Like many of the cocktails that I make at home, the ingredients that I use are put together because of their contrasting flavors that seem to balance together perfectly.
The brown sugar, for example, is a key ingredient in this cocktail as it balances out the citrus elements by giving it a molasses flavoring that is rich, but not overpowering. The sugar cube, which adds sweetness, is something that I decided to add to help the brown sugar have a little more sweetness to it since molasses isn’t something that we often describe as sweet.
The other key elements of this Halloween cocktail are the final ingredients added – the ginger beer. The little addition of ginger beer helps to balance out the tequila flavor so that it becomes one of those scary cocktails that don’t quite taste like a cocktail and tend to sneak up on you. The little tang of the ginger beer combined with the sweetness of the other ingredients makes this a cocktail that you’ll keep sipping on.
One fair warning for the Witch’s Kiss – it’s seductive and will leave you wanting more, but keep in mind, it’s the kiss of a witch…
